An Agile Way to Effect Compliance

The world's leading organizations are more selective than ever about who they do business with. At Complisance we help small and mid-cap companies in the US and abroad build world-class compliance programs — so the world’s leading organizations choose them as trusted third party vendors, suppliers and business partners.

Add to our results-driven approach, simplicity and agility. We assess where you are, create a program that fits your business, implement it alongside your team, and prepare you for the qualification audits that matter. No unnecessary complexity. No boilerplate policies that sit in a drawer. Just a compliance program that works — one that your clients can trust and, if is the case, one that regulators can verify. Compliance is your competitive advantage.

Meet Our Founder

Juan P. Velez (Juan Pablo Penuela-Velez) is the founder and Managing Director of Complisance. He is a compliance attorney with 25+ years of hands-on experience advising US and UK multinational corporations on corporate compliance, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, data privacy, ESG, anti-money laundering, sanctions and third-party risk management across the United States, Latin America, and Europe.

Juan is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, U.S. and in Colombia, and brings a rare combination of legal expertise, cross-border operational experience, and deep familiarity with the compliance standards that large corporations impose on their vendors, suppliers, and contractors. Having spent the greater part of his career inside multinational organizations — building, managing, and auditing the very compliance programs that small and mid-size companies must now meet — he founded Complisance to bridge that gap from the other side. — in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

A past Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics (SCCE) member, now he is further becoming CCEP-I certified, a designation and leading global credential in corporate compliance and ethics.

"I spent 25 years building compliance programs for multinationals. I founded Complisance because the companies they do business with, deserve the same standard of expertise — without the enterprise price tag."

— Juan P. Velez, Founder & Managing Director

How We Work

Every Complisance engagement follows the same four-stage process, adapted to your industry, your jurisdiction, and the specific multinational client whose standards you need to meet.

We begin with a gap assessment — an honest evaluation of where your current compliance posture stands against the standards your target client requires. We identify what is missing, what is partially in place, and what already works. No assumptions, no templates applied blindly.

We then design a program that fits your business — not a Fortune 500 program scaled down, but a right-sized compliance framework that a small or mid-size company can actually operate, sustain, and demonstrate to an auditor. Policies, controls, training, reporting mechanisms, and documentation — built for your team, your resources, and your risk profile.

Implementation happens alongside you. We do not hand over a binder and walk away. We work with your team through the process — translating policy into practice, training your people, and building the institutional knowledge your organization needs to maintain compliance independently after our engagement ends.

Finally, we prepare you for scrutiny. Whether that means a vendor qualification questionnaire, a third-party audit, a due diligence review, or a regulatory inquiry, we make sure your program is documented, defensible, and ready.

Why Complisance

Most compliance consulting firms are built for large corporations. Their teams are structured for enterprise engagements, their fees reflect that, and their deliverables are often too complex for a company of 50, 100, or 500 people to realistically implement and sustain.

Complisance was built specifically for the other side of that equation — the vendors, suppliers, and contractors that large corporations depend on, and that are increasingly required to meet the same compliance standards as their clients.

We bring the same depth of expertise that multinational legal and compliance departments rely on, delivered at the scale and pace that small and mid-size companies need. Cross-border by design, bilingual by necessity, and practical by conviction.

Where We Work

Complisance serves clients across three regions, with deep familiarity in the regulatory, cultural, and business environments of each.

In the United States, we work with companies navigating the compliance requirements of US-headquartered multinationals — from FCPA obligations and DOJ, SEC, OIG guidelines to sector-specific vendor standards in financial services, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing.

In Latin America, we serve companies in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and across the region that are seeking to qualify as vendors or suppliers to US, UK, and European corporations. We work in Spanish and Portuguese and understand the local regulatory landscape as well as the international standards being imposed from above.

In Europe, we work with companies subject to the UK Bribery Act, SFO guidance, EU supply chain due diligence regulations, GDPR data protection requirements, and the compliance expectations of the UK and European multinationals expanding their vendor qualification programs.

Our Commitment

Compliance done well is not a burden — it is evidence of how seriously a company takes its obligations to its clients, its employees, and the markets it operates in. At Complisance, we treat every engagement as an opportunity to build something lasting — a program your organization can be proud of, that your clients can rely on, and that stands up under any level of scrutiny.

We do not measure success by the thickness of the policy manual we deliver. We measure it by whether your compliance program works in practice — and whether it opens doors that were previously closed to you.
